Apple Watch 7: What’s New With the Flagship Wearable Tech

Apple’s wearable fitness tracker and phone companion, the Apple Watch, has remained popular in the years since its initial introduction.

The device is great for users who don’t care to open their phones to check on text messages or answer calls when their phones are in the other room. Others just like being able to control their music from their wrist. Some people use it specifically for its fitness tracking capabilities, keeping up with their exercise and sleep.

Whatever the case may be, many people are excited about the newest line of Apple Watches, the Apple Watch 7. So, what’s new with Apple’s flagship wearable tech?

QWERTY Keyboard

If you’ve used older Apple Watches, you know that the watch’s operating system doesn’t offer a great way to answer text messages without just popping your phone out. The watch allows for tracing letters with your finger, using pre-selected responses, or just using voice-to-text. If you want to type out a reply, however, you’re out of luck. That’s going to change with the Apple Watch 7.

The new watch will sport a QWERTY keyboard integrated into the display when answering messages, allowing for more dynamic and swift responses when you don’t want to–or can’t–pull your phone out.

Design Changes

The usual incremental design changes are also on display with the newest Apple Watch. The seventh iteration of the watch sports even thinner bezels and a bolder screen. The always-on display has been made brighter and easier to read during the daytime. Moreover, the watch now sports an even better battery. The battery in this new watch charges faster than before.

The crystal front face is now even more crack-resistant and tough, too. This allows for more active users to keep up the pace without worrying about smashing their shiny new watch to pieces. Additionally, the new device offers a slew of new colors for the aluminum casing, including black, gold, red, blue, and green.

Release and Pricing

The new devices went up for pre-order on October 8, with a release date of October 15. You’ll be looking at a starting price of $400 for the most basic version, which has a smaller face and no cellular connection. If you do opt for cellular, though, you’ll be eligible for $100 back if you activate the device with Verizon or T-Mobile.
